    • Advocate J. A. Morgenthaler
On the evening of May 4th, Mr. J. A. Morgenthaler died in Burgdorf at the age of about 78. Father, the oldest practicing advocate in the canton of Bern, after being house-bound for a long time due to illness. Recently, one of those men who worked at the Development of the new Burgdorf have worked to the best of their ability. There is no branch in the administration of our residents' community in which Mr. Morgenthaler did not work and provided his husband. "And his voice was important in the community. "In 1865, when part of the upper town was reduced to rubble by the devastating fire, Mr. Morgenthaler was a member of the local council and president of the building and police commission. Until recently he was a member of the examination commission and has been an office administrator for decades. For many years he was president of the parish council, was a co-founder of the hospital, and when the question of setting up a district hospital arose later, he did his best to make this beautiful idea a reality; he was then appointed president of the administrative commission the reorganization of the Office Savings Fund and, as President of the Board of Directors, worked with a sense of purpose for the beautiful development of this institute, was also keen to build the Emmenthal Railway, managing it as President of the Board of Directors. He was also President of the cantonal fire insurance company In 1874 he was sent by the Wahlkr Eis Burgdorf-Heimiswyl-Wynigen in the Grand Council, which also once gave him the presidency. In 1883 he was a member of the Constitutional Council. On the ladder of military dignity he had risen to the rank of battalion commander. He was extraordinarily capable in his profession and therefore a well-booked lawyer who took his duties seriously. With the death of Herr Morgenthaler, a busy life came to an end.
