    Occupation:
    When he married in 1863 he was a draper. It was in 1871 that he became a granite polisher in Dalbeattie. The granite quarries were the main industry in Dalbeattie.

    Valuation Rolls: When they first were recorded in the valuation rolls in the 1869-1870 volume, Robert was recorded as a Draper living in a house in Sunnyside, Dalbeattie. There is an entry for every year but I only copied some years. In the 1879-1880 volume; Robert Mckenzie is a occupier of house and garden on Maxwell Street and the proprietor is St Peters Catholic Church. I have added an image of the 1884-1885 and the 1887-1888 years

    Robert married Catherine Conroy 6 May 1863, St. Michans, Dublin, Dublin, Ireland. Catherine (daughter of George Conroy and Emily Anngier) was born 14 Feb 1835, Newry, Down, Ireland; died 14 Feb 1921, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts; was buried , Barre, Washington, Vermont. [Group Sheet]

    Robert lived with his wife, Catherine, and three children on High Street. Robert is a granite polisher. The family had moved to Dalbeattie about 1869 from Cumbernauld in Dumbartonshire

    FARM OF AUCHENINNES; The farm of Aucheninnes in the Parish of Urr and Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, as presently occupied by John Mckenzie, is to be Let, for fifteen years,with entry at Whitsunday first as to the Houses and Land in Grass, and at the separation of the Crop of this year from the ground as to the Land in Crop. The Farm is about one mile from the thriving village of Dalbeattie, and extends to 220 Scotch Acres or thereby, 45 Acres or thereby being good Arable, 2 Acres Meadow, 89 Acres Hill Pasture, and 89 Acres Hill Pasture, and 86 Acres Moss Pasture. For further particulars application may be made to John Thorburn, Writer in Dumfries, with whom Offers in writing must be lodged previous to 7th February.

    It appears that once they left Aucheninnes they moved to Skipperton or Skipperton Farm in Falkirk Parish where Grace died.
